You will own:
- APIs, data models, business logic, integrations
- Performance: fast loads, efficient queries, caching
- Quality: tests, code reviews, security, documentation
Success looks like:
- Fast, predictable endpoints
- Fewer production bugs and regressions
- Clear logs and diagnosable failures
- Better maintainability for future engineers
Must have:
- Strong backend fundamentals: REST, auth, SQL
- Experience shipping production systems, not just prototypes
- Clean, maintainable code
- Practical testing habits
Nice to have:
- Multi-tenant SaaS
- Queues and background jobs
- Analytics events
- Payments integrations
Do not apply if:
- You cannot explain your database decisions
- You do not write tests at all
- You ship sloppy code and call it “moving fast”
